Crochet with Sarah
Location: The Creative Collective | 4 Skinnergate, Darlington
Hi, I’m Sarah, the founder of Rainbow Dandelion Crochet.
Rainbow Dandelion Crochet is multi award-winning. It is rooted in kindness, inclusivity, and gentle creativity.
If you are wanting to learn a new hobby this year, I host a supportive space where you can learn to crochet at your own pace.
Whether you’re picking up a hook for the very first time, or returning to crochet as a way to reconnect with yourself, my one-to-one sessions are held with kindness, patience, and deep respect for your personal journey.
There is no pressure to be perfect.
There is no expectation to be “creative”.
We move gently, honouring exactly how you feel on that day.
The Healing Power of Crochet
Crochet is about more than making something beautiful. For many people, the repetitive, rhythmic motion of crochet becomes a safe anchor when the world feels loud or overwhelming. It offers the nervous system a much-needed pause.
A gentle rhythm for the mind
The steady movement of the hook and the soft texture of yarn work together to lower stress and quiet anxious thoughts, creating a sense of calm and safety.
A path to emotional ease
Crochet can support emotional processing. The meditative loop helps settle the mind, while your "Journey Journal" offers a private, safe place to gently release thoughts and feelings after our session.
Restoring joy and rest
Creative activity releases natural feel-good hormones. By soothing the mind during the day, many people notice it becomes easier to rest and sleep more peacefully.
Grounding in the present moment
Focusing on the feel of the fibre and the shape of each stitch brings us back into the here and now, turning a simple craft into a deeply grounding experience.
What We’ll Explore Together
During your session, we’ll gently cover the foundations of crochet:
The language of yarn
Understanding yarn labels, hook sizes, and the “secret code” of patterns, I will teach you both UK and US terms, explained in a clear, accessible way. We’ll also look at how to read a chart.
Foundation stitches
You’ll learn to chain, single crochet, double crochet, and slip stitch. These stitches will come together to begin creating a beautiful blanket.
Finishing touches
We’ll explore colour changes and soft borders, helping you complete your work with confidence and pride.
A Fully Supported Experience
Refreshments are included (thank goodness!)
Tea, coffee, decaf, hot chocolate, water or juice, along with biscuits, are available to help your time feel relaxed and welcoming.
Before your session, you’ll complete a gentle pre-session questionnaire. This allows us to talk about accessibility needs, mental health considerations, and any dietary requirements, so your lesson feels truly supportive and tailored to you.
