Tony's Tips
"Growing Vines to Make Wines" sounds promising but to add "In England" would look like a contradiction in terms! so the second statement has been omitted from the title. You see, if you know what you're doing and give the vines a fighting chance of survival as indeed many wine makers do in this country, the resulting English wine can be of a very High Quality, but you do need inside information . . . F'rinstance, I was still waiting for a row of white grapes to blossom forth at the bottom of my garden planted under the precise instructions of my long ago deceased Grandad, he said just poke them in the soil and watch'em grow into shiny bottles of wine! This vision impressed and stayed with me into adulthood! Well disappointingly, since reading "Growing Vines to make Wines" by expert grower and Isle of Wight wine maker Nick Poulter, I now realise Grandad must have told a fib to his 5 year old Grandson! . . . . if only I'd had this little book back then I wouldn't gave wasted my time tending this hopeless vineyard for the last 55 years!
